Hi, friends! I’m glad to see you all here. I wish to share with you a few tidbits about my life in the auto sales business in hopes that you can find inspiration to follow your own path no matter how challenging it appears to be. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in all my years here, it’s that patience, persistence, and perseverance will get you through anything. These three P’s are the cornerstones of success.
I encourage you to keep moving forward no matter how many obstacles are in your way. Don’t back out. Find a way around those obstacles, and soon enough, you will reach your goals. That’s how it was for me when I took on the position of Executive Manager at Jim Lupient Infiniti—but I’m getting ahead of myself. First, let me share with you how I got started in this business.
My first work experience may not come as a surprise since my family owns a chain of dealerships. But I could’ve gone the other way had I wanted to. My parents never forced me to join the family business. It was my personal decision. I guess my father’s stories about cars, customers, and the challenges that come with owning and running a dealership influenced me in a way.
I was 15 when I started doing odd jobs at the dealerships. I was sent on errands, asked to help dust off the cars, opened doors for customers, and fetched documents, and I didn’t mind at all! It made me feel important.
When I completed my undergraduate studies in Political Science at Hamline University in St. Paul, I was asked to work as a dealership manager for Lupient Buick Pontiac GMC in Golden Valley. I didn’t stay long at this job because just after one year, my dad asked me to serve as Executive Manager for Jim Lupient Infiniti, also in Golden Valley. This was where my sales and managerial skills were tested the most.
For several years, this particular dealership wasn’t doing very well. And when the general manager quit, things just got worse, and that was when I was asked to step in. Honestly, I hesitated at first. I didn’t know how I would be able to turn things around. The store has been in the red for far too long that in my opinion only a miracle could save it.
But I didn’t back down. Instead, I used these challenges as motivation. With the help of my team, we were able to win back the customers that we lost, gain new ones, and finally, made the store profitable. I am proud to say that we were given the prestigious Infiniti Award of Excellence for three consecutive years; 2008, 2009, and 2010.
